Civil War Continues in Great Wildlands (Eve ship)

June 6th, 2009

[RE-AL]‘s Fleet Commander, Norsey, confirmed via GalNet that their target was a [-COW-] starbase. He states: “We cynoed into u3k to recap, and wait for the tower to come out … we wasn’t sure if [-COW-] would defend the tower at all”.

Norsey explained that they had been watching EO2 station for possible [-COW-] activity. However, their fleet had already been ordered to jump and take position at the target starbase when intelligence came in that the enemy capital fleet had undocked and jumped to an unknown location.

C0rn1, a [KRAUTS]‘s capsuleer, describes the tense moments before the battle to defend their installation: “First words of them forming up at the [starbase] came in. Only Caldari Dreads and a few carriers … [after a while] they brought in all their capitals and started sieging”. It was at this point they received order to jump.

[-COW-]‘s fleet was comprised of 27 dreadnoughts, 32 carriers, a Titan and a small support wing. Having safely completed the jump they proceeded to bubble [RE-AL]‘s capitals and open fire, leaving their Titan to jump in and trigger its DoomsDay weapon. Lord Gorbash, a [-COW-] pilot recalls the massive energy release; “It caught the [RE-AL], Vanguard, TR support fleet destroying a large number of ships. Some [TCF] also died … it was the Titan’s first combat action and the DD resulted in [a huge number of kills]“

[RE-AL]‘s fleet was comprised of 29 dreadnoughts and 12 carriers plus support. Having being bubbled, they committed themselves to the fight and they were confident they were up to it. However, the Doomsday immediately upset the balance, as [RE-AL]‘s Fleet Commander explains: “We had lost a alot of DPS and faced equal number of hostile dreads but with only half the carriers with no fighters. After the first siege cycle, it became more and more difficult sinking the enemy dreads.”

By the time the dust settled, Republic Alliance had lost 29 Dreadnoughts, 7 Carriers and the bulk of its support fleet. Losses on Cult of War side amounted to 6 dreadnoughts and a carrier. [-COW-]‘s starbase was later destroyed by Pandemic Legion [PL].

The U3K-4A battle is just the latest in a series of engagements continuing in Great Wildlands. After F0undation’s dissolution, several corporation from the former powerblock created Republic Alliance while others reunited under Cult Of War.

When asked for his opinion on the current political situation in Great Wildlands, Lord Gorbash said: “It would be fair to say that the area is in a state of civil war… at the moment [TRUE] and [RE-AL] are of the mindset that they will settle for nothing less than the removal of [-COW-] and allies from the region… from our point of view the fight is going very well. [RE-AL] are losing a lot more ships than [us] and we are able to mount small gang operations in their home system as and when we want… [we] will not settle for the continued existence of [RE-AL] in GW at this time though we will let them leave.”

Time 3290, a [RE-AL]‘s diplomat, describes the conflict: “[-COW-] took advantage and started to shoot at everyone so we set them red …The fights are very big and no one will back down… they have alot more caps and KrautbreaK [brings more] to the fight, but we are getting stronger day by day and picking up fight. [Our] plans are to run GW and keep it safe but in time we will push for sov space.”

War for the North Continues as Reinforcements Join Both Sides

Northern New Eden - Forces on both sides of the Triumvirate [TRI] and NC conflict have recently expanded their ranks with fresh alliances eager to join the quickly escalating war.

Red.Overlord [R.O.L], Ev0ke [EV0KE], and Huzzah Federation [HF] have aligned with [TRI] while NC member Mostly Harmless [-42-] recently absorbed into their ranks long time ally Avarice [FAIL] along with several hundred members from Dara Cothrom [DACO]. Both [FAIL] and [DACO] were major space-holders in the Cloud Ring region resulting in [-42-] becoming Cloud Ring’s primary landlord seemingly overnight.

In total, these additions add nearly 750 pilot’s to [-42-]‘s ranks and over 1,800 combatants to the anti-NC forces.

During a recent sit-down with Darknesss of [TRI] he indicated that the new additions are only a temporary measure “to help deal damage to a common enemy. It’s simply a case of ‘the enemy of my enemy is my friend.’”

Engagement Recap

Much has happened since WTF ([WN], [TRI], and friends) garnered the attention of the universe by destroying five RAZOR motherships in Branch. A week later the war began in ernest when over 1,000 NC and WTF pilots engaged in E-7U8U, Venal – a battle marked by extensive spatial disturbances and over 115 capital losses (weighing significantly in NC’s favour).

Three weeks later the conflict once again flared following several weeks of lessened activity due to Morsus Mihi’s [RAWR] successful recapture of the 25 high value moons taken by WTF. The renewed fighting was attributed to an [EV0KE] and [HF] joint assault on [-42-] systems in Cloud Ring centering around 9-4RP2.

On May 27th, WTF, [EV0KE], and [HF] hotdropped on top of a [-42-] capital fleet as they were attacking an [EVOKE] tower in 9-4. Both fleets numbered between 100 and 150 pilots, however [-42-] was severely outgunned and lost 25 capitals while the WTF coalition suffered only 3-5 capital losses. [-42-] has since regrouped and removed all enemy towers from 9-4 resulting in reduced combat activities for the time being.

What Next?

The future of the north is still very much in the air as neither side has shown any signs of weakening. The NC’s ability to replace capital losses has of course been no surprise, but WTF’s equally impressive replenishment rate has left many scratching their heads.

“…people are speculating where we’re getting our isk from,” Darkness commented, “frankly, it doesn’t matter. The fact is our capital fleet is now as big as it was before the E-7 Capital fight and we are eager to fight again.”

[RAWR] CEO Vuk Lau claims to have a very good idea of where the ISK is coming from and indicated that this information was obtained from recent diplomatic conversations with [TRI].

In regards to the sustainability of defending the north while “purging” the south, Vuk Lau stated that while WTF is an “annoyance”, it is no strain on [RAWR] to return and defend NC property. “Even easier then to travel two jumps,” he states.

However, Vuk Lau hinted that [RAWR] are beginning to tire of the southern crusade against KenZoku [RKZ] and are continuing to keep their eyes on the north as the “hostile to NC” bloc expands.

“…as much as killing our arch-enemies formerly known as BoB is enjoyment, especially after Max, we are experiencing less and less resistance and [the] north will soon become fun place to be,” Vuk Lau concluded.

As for WTF’s future – Darknesss had this to say:

“Triumvirate aren’t going anywhere, we will not disband like your leadership hopes. We are in your corporations, in your alliances and we will kill you however we can whenever we can no matter how long it takes.”

Death of a titan: Probed Out or Sold Out?

F9-FUV - Rumours are circulating among pilots of an uncommon kind of infiltrator; one who involves himself (or herself) in corporation or alliance affairs rather than remaining aloof like many spies; one who acts in combat rather than targetting industrial assets, blueprints and towers. An infiltrator who gives away the location of prized tactical assets when they are unguarded and marks them for the kill.

The death of an IRC titan on the 24th of last month (24.04.111) has been cited as one possible example of such an act of sabotage, but this is hotly disputed by the combined forces who brought the titan down, who claim it was simply a case of persistence.

Elements of RED Alliance, VooDoo Technologies, Wildly Inappropriate., United Legion, Majesta Empire, Red Army Alliance, LUCKY LEAGUE, Ultima Rati0 and The Initiative successfully engaged and destroyed an Erebus class titan piloted by Seoise of VIRTUAL LIFE VANGUARD, Intrepid Crossing alliance [IRC] in the F9-FUV system.

Kneipi from Marquie-X Corp, Majesta Empire describes how the event took place. “We had some gangs running [nearby], then we got intel about an active titan in F9″ so “the combined ops channels were spammed, fleet formed, and finally the titan was tackled on a deep safe [(a safespot normally out of sensor range)]” A combined total of 135 ships, running the spectrum of all non-capital classes, arrived to engage the behemoth.

Strangely, the titan’s pilot Seoise did not react initially, only deploying his doomsday device halfway into the fight. Kelegrim of R.U.S.H., Red Alliance, described the engagement as “quick” with the “titan down very fast…maybe 2 minutes.” Losses for the combined fleet attacking the titan were reported as 2 battleships total. Oldma of AWE Corporation in IRC confirms the facts up to this point.

How the titan was found and ultimately tackled seems to be the where reports differ. The titan, being far out of scan range and cloaked, should have been very difficult, if not impossible to find.

Zintrex of Epiphyte Mining and Exploration corporation in Majesta Empire, whose Rokh class battleship administered the killing blow to the Erebus, had this to say: “The Erebus pilot made a mistake and our fine ‘dictor pilots managed to get him bubbled” adding that “the kill was pure luck”.

Kelegrim attributes the destruction of the ship to the hard work of his covert operations pilot, Cairne Bloodhoof, who went “2 days without sleeping,” dropping probes every time a titan was seen on scanner. Allegedly, the titan’s location was “scanned in warp” and Cairne was able to warp close enough to cause the massive ship’s cloak to disengage.

However, Oldma claims that “… the location of the titan was given to the other side” adding “at least that was what we were told.” When asked what might motivate the alleged turncoat whom Oldma believes went to the titan and decloaked it, Oldma replied that he could not sure. “Maybe that someone just wanted isk, who knows.”

Oldma’s response to the titan loss was to say “we have a few more titans, so it does not do much, except to the guy who lost it; [Seoise] is a little sad.” While Ethereal Dawn and IRC appear to be under pressure from attacks by multiple alliances, Oldma stated “we will defend the area as long as we can.”
