EVE ONLINE PIRACY GUIDE (Eve 6 heres to the nights)
November 23rd, 2007EVE ONLINE PIRACY GUIDE
Alright Skaliwag, so you want to become a pirate eh? You want to prosper off the misfortune of your fellow man? You want to learn how to make your peers cry and swear at you and call you every bad name they can think of, even names that they make up on the spot because they are so furious? You want make people so depressed that they threaten to quit the game after you loot and destroy months of their hard work? Well my amigo, you sound like a very bad person. Why would I want to deal with a person like you? With yearnings like these, you don’t even deserve to be alive! You are scum. But…you know what? So am I!
But perception goes both ways, and scum is just how you will be perceived until you become so infamous and so feared by alliances that they come to enjoy the thrill of your presence in their territory, knowing that at any moment all their plans and ambitions could be annihilated if they jump into the system that you happen to be waiting in. Its pirates that make EVE an exciting and worth wile place.
Now on to business. First, I am going to assume that you can fly a battle ship and have an alternative way to support yourself and your pirating escapades.
Now, what I recommend is that you pirate in 0.0 and that you use a battleship or HAC exclusively if you can afford it. All battleships and HACs can kill any other ships in the game when fitted right. 95% of my pirating and player killing has been in 0.0 while flying a battleship.
My favorite region to pirate in is Pure Blind without a doubt. EC-P8R is one of the most dangerous and profitable systems in the game. You can base yourself out of Saranen and enter 0.0 through 93pi. From there its just two jumps over to EC-P8R. The road from EC-P8R up to X-70 is fantastic for pirating. There are many rich merchants and travelers that pass by every day.
Gate camping. Ok gate camping is very profitable. Find yourself a moderately well traveled area in 0.0 and then set right above the gate. I recommend the 0-N gate in EWOK which is in Pure Blind and only one jump from EC-P8R. It’s important that you sit as close to the gate as you can but right above it so that if you happen to get overwhelmed, you can easily align to your safe spot and warp away. You also need to be able to lock on to anyone who jumps into your system and sitting on top of the gate will make it so anyone who jumps into you is 15km away, which is perfect. When they jump into your system from the gate you are camping, as soon as they uncloak, control+left click them to target them as fast as possible and cycle your warp disruptor as soon as you start locking them so that as soon as you get a lock, they will be disrupted. Then cycle on your guns and wait for them to die.
Making money. Ok you make money in two ways from pirating. One, you can ransom. I don’t recommend this as you never know what kind of loot you could have gotten if you had popped them, and so it just adds more hassle having to deal with trying to get them to pay. No one likes to pay. They will be trying to do everything they can to get away. When you ransom, first start shooting, then tell them to pay as you kill them. If they don’t pay before they are dead, blow them up. The other way is to just collect the loot they drop and sell it. Tech 2 mods sell for good money and I personally have blown up haulers with 500mil worth of loot in their cargo holds.
Ok, on to the actual loadouts. First, if you want to be successful and maintain a kill to death ratio like 9-1, then you must use at minimum two warp core stabs on your battleship at all times(to get away from gank squads). You must also always have at least one sensor booster and one warp disruptor fitted to your ship at all time and always turned on so you can catch your prey easily. Drones are very important, always bring medium drones (unless you have a ship that uses nos or energy neuts, in which case you can slow down frigs and cruisers enough to use heavy drones on them). Also, always insure your battleship fully and always use standard equipment (unless you can afford tech 2 or named but even then you still don’t need it). Here are my setups for the four best all around pirating ships in the game(they happen to be battleships).
Raven – Lock down your target with the multispec target jammers then do what you want with him.
High: 6 Cruise Launchers, 2 medium or heavy Nos
Med: 1 warp disruptor, 1 sensor booster, 4 multispec jammers
Low: medium armor rep, 2 warp core stabs, 2 ballistic controls or even more warp core stabs, you can never have too many.
Tempest – Get in close to your target with the mwd, shut it off, then orbit them at 5km.
High: 6 800mm auto cannons (or lesser caliber if fitting is hard) and two medium Nos
Med: 1 sensor booster, 2 warp disruptors, 1 large mwd, 1 large cap injector
Low: 2 warp core stabs, 1 large armor rep, 1 medium armor rep, 2 armor hardeners
Armageddon – Just blast away
High: 7 megapulse, 1 medium neutralizer
Med: 1 warp disruptor, 1 webifier, 1 sensor booster
Low: 2 warp core stabs, 5 heatsinks, 1 small repairer.
Dominix – Drain their cap, lock them down, and drone them to death.
High: A mix of 4 heavy and medium Nos and two medium neuts combined with a full loadout of heavy drones
Med: sensor booster, warp disruptor, and the rest multi-spec jammers
Low: 2 warp core stabs, 2 large armor repairers, rest armor hardeners and 1 cap power relay.
With these ships and setups, you can attack and destroy any other ship in the game. These setups are very practical and easy to use. If you are trying to solo pirate and you are not using one of these ships, chances are your making your life a lot harder than it has to be. If you really want setups for frigs or cruisers, contact me and I will send them to you, but pirating in a frig or cruiser is very hard to do profitably unless you are only looking to kill haulers or other frigs and cruisers, and even then you don’t have any room for loot.
Duo pirating with a friend. If your friend is in a battleship, have one of you sit on one side of the gate and one of you sit on the other. Let the prey jump in on one of you, then when one pirate has him warp disrupted, the other pirate can jump in to help. If your friend is in a frigate, just have him scout around and lock down prey. If you are able to have two EVE-Online accounts, then I recommend making an alt on your second account that you can use to scout for your main character. You can also use this alt to trick miners and npcers into getting themselves killed by asking if you can make bookmarks in the belt they are hunting or mining in. Then, when the alt gets close to the prey, your main character jumps into the system, warps to the alt, and bam! You just made some more money.
If you want bounties, pirate in empire. People will every rarely place a bounty on your heard if you kill/pirate them in 0.0 as they are more used to it. Kill a few people in low sec empire and you will have a bounty within a day, and it will only get bigger. But before you do this, remember that if you let your security status fall below -1.9, you really can’t go into 0.5 systems and above anymore. Not being able to go into high sec empire can be very hard for a player with little money as ships and modules are scarce and expensive in low sec and people don’t usually like to sell to known pirates. But if you happen to get rich enough to be able to comfortable have a -10.0 security status, then get yourself a sniper setup and sit 150km from a gate(so the sentry guns can’t hit you) in low sec empire and blow up everyone that comes through. An example of a sniper setup would be like a tempest with 1400mm guns, 3 sensor boosters, and 5 damage mods. Have a friend collect the loot.
So that’s it. Be respectful (unless your really good at come backs, then fire away), and have fun. Play around with these techniques and you will be killing up a storm in no time. Cunning and stealth are your friends, always remember that. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Good luck.
